Employee engagement
Most employee opinion surveys now focus on employee engagement. Whether employees feel engaged at work is quite complex to investigate and therefore cannot be measured by a single question. At ORC International the principles of "Say, Stay and Strive" are used to help our clients build an engaged workforce.
If employees:
- speak positively about their employer
- intend to continue working with them and remain committed
- strive to do the best they can for the organisation
they are displaying the characteristics of an engaged employee.
Rather than having a standard set of questions in each of these areas, we feel it is more important that organisations choose the questions they believe are the most appropriate for them, whilst still covering each aspect of "Say, Stay and Strive".
Say – engaged employees are good advocates of their organisation and speak positively of the organisation to others.
Stay – engaged employees are those who want to stay working at their organisation into the foreseeable future.
Strive – engaged employees are those who will strive to make the organisation successful. This may involve:
- contributing extra effort to a task
- being keen to suggest ideas
- doing more than is expected of them
Our employee engagement model is summarised below:
We believe that it is important not only to focus on understanding what engagement is, but also to look into drivers of engagement. Our research approach provides a clear insight into the areas requiring strategic action within organisations to achieve tangible business improvements.
