Focusing on the heart of Chesterfield Royal Hospital
Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation
Trust recognises that employees are a key
resource in achieving its strategic objectives,
visions and values. The Trust was looking to
conduct employee research outside of the
required NHS England survey, which would
get to the heart of issues important to its
workforce of around 3,400.
The Trust appointed ORC International to design a survey aimed at creating a clear understanding of workforce perception, to highlight areas for action and ultimately increase morale and employee engagement across the organisation.
Exploring local issues
We designed a survey that not only focused its findings, but also explored local issues relevant to the Trust. These included communications mediums, the role of council governors and line management, and how staff felt about board decisions and the treatment of patients in hospital. The survey was administered both on paper and online, and received a higher response rate (56%) than the national surveys for England, Wales and Scotland.
Going deeper
After the close of the survey, employees were able to discuss their views of the results through a number of exciting interactive methods.
An online community forum was immediately launched, where employees could anonymously discuss the survey and its findings, providing valuable qualitative feedback for Trust managers. Further staff feedback was gathered from a series of focus groups, which helped to explore the themes more deeply.
We also held a number of interactive presentations utilising an advanced audience response system, where staff could vote anonymously for the issues that meant the most to them using individual handheld devices.
